MerpCon I (2005) Audio of Campaign Introduction.

by admin last modified 2006-10-27 05:46

This is the audio extracted from the video of the MerpCon I (2005) convention introduction to the campaign "Escape from Numenor".

MerpCon I (2005) Audio of Campaign Introduction.

Escape From Numenor

It starts with Christopher Lee & The Tolkien Ensemble reading the Riddle of the Ring. Then goes into the introduction.
You will here two main voices.
The first will be Hawke, the Game Master.
The later voice will be Chris Seeman, who played the role of Ciryatur, leader of this small band of Faithful in the Northwest on the doomed island of Numenor.
The audio quality is poor, because it picked up all the ambient noise from all the people and events going on in the large area.
Several people indicated they wanted to hear this, so there you go! ;-)
There will be a version coming up soon, where the voice of Hawke will (re) read the introduction, but without all the background noise. Then when it is Chris Seeman's turn, it will switch back to the audio of him (old, noisy audio), but there will be an effort to try to filter out some of the worst of the noise.
You can download this file from the Downloads section of www.merpcon.com.
You will see a folder for MerpCon I downloads.
The file you want is labeled "Audio of Campaign Introduction - MerpCon 1 - Escape From Numenor".

Updated information from email announcement:

The audio portion from the video, of the introduction to "Escape From Numenor" is now available for download from the MerpCon website.
This includes a brief piece of the riddle of the ring read by Christopher Lee.
Then jumps in to the audio of Hawke (me) and Chris Seeman reading the (rather long but informative) introduction, and acting out different characters (NPCs), as well as the first 30 minutes or so of actual game play.
I'm sorry that the background noise is so bad from all the other gaming tables.
This year I began using external microphones for recording and that helped, but still I had some technical difficulties.
Next year there will be even better audio equipment.

The video this audio was taken from, is still a rather large download, so I'm going to resample it down to a more manageable downloadable size. A higher resolution and longer version will be on the MerpCon I video dvd when it's finally done. (pending Chris Seeman's approval).

You can find the file in the Downloads section under MerpCon I, in the Audio section.

I'm almost done editing a variant on this. What I did last night was I recorded in my studio, my reading the introduction by myself.
This is probably not as interesting/fun as with the interaction between Chris Seeman and I, but it is much easier to listen too.
However, you will want the MerpCon I version as well, because there was a lot of improvisation, and of course the gaming part as well. This just makes it easier to hear the monologue part that I read, that is more difficult to hear at the convention from the background noise.

Feedback as always is most welcome. ;-)
Cheers!
